Hospital Rooms is an art project running over 18 months, commissioning 11 new artworks for Hospital spaces nationwide. AIM artists Chris and Louise will be working collaboratively to develop artwork for the waiting area at The Kingfisher; a new mental health service being designed specifically for people with autism or a learning disability, opening early 2026.
Their work so far has included facilitating art workshops with the community and service users. In July, they hosted a workshop at Arnolfini, which saw participants create artwork based on wildlife – a theme which Chris and Louise frequently centre their work around. The group was supported to create vibrant pieces of animals and their habitats. Workshops have been inspiring the final artwork itself, which is still in development.
“I feel really good that my art’s been chosen for this project. It means my art’s getting around, which makes me happy. My art will be up there for a very long time to help a lot of people” – Louise, Art In Motion
This initiative transforms hospital spaces nationwide, ensuring that communities identified as most impacted by the Mental Health Act – young people, adults in the criminal justice system, black communities, and people with autism and learning disabilities- have equitable access to high-quality cultural and creative experiences.
This commission is delivered in collaboration with NHS Trusts in Birmingham, Bristol, North East London and South West Yorkshire.
