Katy

About

Katie’s artwork is mostly paintings and drawings. She has been making art since she was 23 years old, and studied Art & Design at Ashley Down College. Her family are the main themes in her work, and she is heavily inspired by family & friends, memories, and nostalgia. What she enjoy most about making art is finding it really relaxing.

She is most proud of her recent paintings, especially exhibiting for the first time and showcasing the painting of Mum, Lee and herself at Spike Open Studios this year.

Katy is currently working on refining her portraiture work, and exploring themes of people and family in her work. In the future, she’d like to look at moving into ceramics and other materials. She would like to continue creating artwork both at AIM and home, alongside work.

Working with AIM has made a difference to Katy’s life because it’s given her more skills and confidence in making art. It helps her to develop and realise areas she can improve, and it makes her happy. “It’s a good atmosphere!”

If she could give advice to anyone wanting to become an artist, it would be that being part of a group is really helpful to support you. Art is relaxing and makes you happy, but can be difficult at times- and you should never give up.
